IMS, Jammu organized activity titled “The ₹30,000 Money Challenge” for BBA and BCA

The Management Club of the Institute of Management Sciences recently organized an engaging and thought-provoking activity titled “The ₹30,000 Money Challenge” for BBA and BCA students of the 3rd and 5th semesters. The activity involved students forming groups, each given a hypothetical monthly salary of ₹30,000. Their task was to plan a budget for the entire year, from January to December, considering essential expenses such as housing, food, transportation, savings, entertainment, and education.

With only 15 minutes for budget planning, each group had to think critically and creatively to balance their spending and savings. The exercise aimed to teach the students the importance of financial planning, enabling them to achieve both short-term satisfaction and long-term goals. Following the planning phase, each group presented their budget plan, explaining their allocation of funds and the rationale behind their financial decisions.

The winning group, Group 4, comprised of Aryan Kachroo (BBA 5), Nitesh Koul (BBA 5), Vibu (BBA 3), Suraj Raina (BCA 5), and Shubham Dhar (BBA 5), impressed the judges with their well-thought-out budget plan, showcasing an excellent balance between necessary expenses and savings. Congratulations to Group 4 for their outstanding performance in this insightful and practical challenge!

IMS Jammu Hosts Young Filmmaker Shekhar Sharma in the Orientation programme for BBA/BCA students on August 5, 2024

The Institute of Management Sciences (IMS) conducted an engaging orientation ceremony for BBA and BCA 3rd and 5th-semester students. The event commenced with a warm welcome from the Director of IMS, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, who emphasized the importance of introspection, networking, and the balanced use of AI tools in the new academic year. Following her address, the coordinators of the Management and Computer Science departments introduced their respective subjects to the students.

The highlight of the event was a Special Guest session by Mr. Shekhar Sharma, a renowned independent filmmaker from Jammu, who shared his inspiring journey in the film industry. His short film “Herath” which won the Best Director award at Indo Bangla International Film festival at Kolkata was screened He provided insights into various aspects of filmmaking and addressed students’ queries about career opportunities and challenges in the field.

The orientation also featured an interactive “30,000 Money Challenge” activity, where students, in groups of five, planned a budget for a hypothetical monthly salary of 30,000 INR over a year. This was followed by presentations and evaluations of their ideas.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Gurshish Kour and a token of appreciation presented to Mr. Shekhar by Dr. Meenakshi Sharma. The event successfully combined motivational speeches, practical sessions, and interactive activities, setting a positive tone for the new academic year.

IMS Jammu collaborates with CT University, Ludhiana for promoting entrepreneurial ecosystem

Under MoE’s Innovation Council, IMS Jammu collaborates with CT University, Ludhiana for promoting entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Institute. A delegation from CT University visited IMS College under a mutually beneficial agreement to advise the Innovation Cell of the institute in creating awareness regarding various schemes of AICTE and MoE’s innovation council and their impact on student development.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome extended to Mr. Sanjay Khanduri, Director of Planning and Skill Development, and Mr. Vasu Tandon, Project Officer, both from CT University. Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Director of IMS, subsequently addressed the gathering, providing an overview of the IIC cell’s mission, goals, and its role in fostering innovation among students. Dr. Sharma emphasized the cell’s commitment to transforming student ideas into tangible innovations. Er Divya Jamwal, Coordinator of the Management Department, presented a comprehensive report detailing the IIC cell’s activities from August 2023 to June 2024. The presentation encompassed a wide range of initiatives, including Celebration activities, IIC Activities, MIC activities, and Self-driven activities. The report also highlighted the significance of the Impact Lecture Series, Mentor-Mentee Program, and IIC Quarterly Meetings in supporting student growth.

Following the presentation, an open forum for discussion was held which was attended by Chief Coordinator, Er Nidhi Jamwal, coordinators of Management and Computer department and all the faculty members. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore potential avenues for further enhancing student support and development. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Mr. Sanjay Khanduri expressing satisfaction with the IIC cell’s progress and its potential to contribute to student success. The management of IMS college, Er Vidhi Singh Jamwal, Chairman Jamwal group, Vice Chairman, Sh. Shiv dev Singh Jamwal and Managing Director, Er Renu Bangroo, congratulated the Director and Faculty of the institute for providing various opportunities to the young students for a better tomorrow.

IMS Jammu signed MoU to enhance entrepreneurship with JKEDI

Institute of Management Sciences Jammu (IMS Jammu) signed a Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) to enhance entrepreneurship and career development opportunities for its students. The collaboration involve the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI).

The MoU focuses on Knowledge Sharing through collaborative workshops, seminars, and conferences on Startups and Entrepreneurship development, Mentorship Programs by connecting IMS Jammu students with experienced JKEDI mentors for guidance and support in launching their ventures and also facilitating the incubation of promising student startups at JKEDI’s incubation centers.

Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Director, IMS Jammu after signing the MOU’s said that “These MoU significantly advance our commitment to student success. We are confident that our collaboration with JKEDI will equip our students with the entrepreneurial and career development skills to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.” Mr. Rajinder Kumar Sharma (JKAS), Director, JKEDI expressed similar sentiments and said “We are delighted to partner with IMS Jammu to foster a culture of entrepreneurship. This MoU empowers budding entrepreneurs with the knowledge, mentorship, and support to turn their ideas into successful businesses.”

IMS Jammu organizes Rukhsat 2024 for outgoing batches of MBA, BBA & BCA

The “Ruksat” farewell event, held on April 12, 2024, marked a significant moment for the graduating batches of BBA, BCA, and MBA students at IMS. This event, which originated in 2022 as a means of formally bidding adieu to outgoing students, served as a poignant reminder of the transformative journey undertaken by these individuals during their time at IMS.

Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, the esteemed Director of IMS, delivered an inspiring address, offering valuable insights and guidance for the graduates as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. Her words resonated deeply with the departing students, emphasizing the importance of resilience, continuous learning, and upholding strong moral values in the face of challenges.Following her address, a touching video montage was presented, encapsulating the cherished memories and experiences shared by the outgoing batches throughout their academic journey at IMS. This visual tribute served as a heartfelt reminder of the bonds forged and the milestones achieved within the IMS community.

The event proceeded with the distribution of mementos to the departing students, symbolizing their enduring connection to IMS and the profound impact they have had on its legacy. Later, Senior Professor Mr. JR Dhotra shared words of wisdom and encouragement, inspiring the graduates to embrace the challenges of the future with courage and determination.

IMS Jammu Organizes MoE’s Innovation Cell sponsored Impact Lecture Series

The Institute of Management Science’s IIC club organized the Impact Lecture Series sponsored by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and AICTE on April 4th, 2024. The event commenced with a welcoming address by Director IMS, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma who explained the necessity of holding such events for creating and improving the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in J&K. She apprised the audience with the various initiatives undertaken by IIC cell of the institute.

The resources persons for the event included Mr. Sourab Mengi, Assistant Manager at the Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Business Modelling, and Dr. Vinod Kumar, Incharge at the Centre for Business Development Regional Office. Mr. Sourab Mengi initiated the series with a presentation on the Overview of J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute, emphasizing the significance of startups in today’s landscape. He apprised students of various government-initiated schemes such as the Seed Capital Fund scheme and Youth startup scheme, along with an overview of the J&K Startup Policy. In the next session Dr. Vinod Kumar, provided an overview of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), elucidating on its types, benefits, and the imperative role of innovation in contemporary society. Dr. Kumar stressed the autonomy of initiating startups with innovative ideas without solely relying on the government sector. He also outlined the process of registering for IPR. The first leg of the event concluded with Director IMS, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, presenting tokens of appreciation to the esteemed guests.

During the event’s second session, Dr. Vinod Kumar led a business simulation workshop. Students were provided with cash to simulate the creation and sale of products, mimicking real-world scenarios. The day long event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof J. R Dhotra who thanked the Guest speakers for their valuable time.

IMS Jammu organizes Educational Visit to NSE Investor Service Centre

Institute of Management Sciences, Jammu organized an insightful educational visit for its MBA and BBA students on April 3rd, 2024. The visit aimed to provide first hand exposure to the intricacies of investor services, hosted at the esteemed NSE Investor Service Centre located at Bahu Plaza in Jammu.

Accompanied by faculty members, students from MBA – 4, MBA – 2, and BBA – 6 eagerly participated in this enriching endeavour. The visit offered a unique opportunity for students to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, aligning with the institute’s commitment to holistic education.

During the visit, students had the privilege of engaging with professionals and experts in the field, gaining valuable insights into various aspects of investor services, stock market operations, and financial management. Incharge, Investor Relations – Mr. Ankush Goja provided an insightful information to the students regarding Do’s and Don’ts of investing in Share market. He also advised them about Complaints and Fraud services of the NSE. The interactive sessions and demonstrations provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic landscape of the financial industry.

Director, IMS Dr. Meenakshi Sharma thanked the NSE Investor Service Centre for the visit and said that IMS Jammu remains committed to nurturing future leaders and innovators, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning among its student community.

IMS Jammu Organizes Investor Awareness Program

Institute of Management Sciences, Jammu, organised a Guest Session- Investor Awareness Program, on April 1, 2024, within its campus premises for the students of Management and Computer department .

The session was graced by the Expert Speaker Mr. Ankush Goja (Regulatory, Northern Region Incharge Investor Service Centre, Jammu). The session began with the welcome speech by Director IMS, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma followed by an hour long session by the guest speaker Mr. Ankush Goja.

The focus of the session was about Understanding Financial markets and Evaluating investment opportunities. Mr. Goja explained the importance of Financial planning for young students and discussed the various risk management strategies. He also focused on how to build a diversified investment portfolio and navigate the regulatory frameworks. The session was attended by students of BBA, BCA and MBA.

The session concluded with an engaging QnA wherein the speaker answered various queries of the students. Later a Memento was presented to the guest by Director IMS Dr. Meenakshi Sharma followed by a formal vote of thanks by Ms. Gurshish Kour , Assistant professor, IMS.

IMS JAMMU ORGANIZES ‘LAUNCH A PRODUCT IDEA ‘ CONTEST

Under the umbrella of Institution Innovation council, Institute of management sciences organized inter college ‘Launch of product’ competition for the students of Management and other courses from various undergraduate courses of J & K.. The competition was organised for the students to enhance their creativity and give them a taste of the real business environment. Director, IMS, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma encouraged the students to take part in such contests as these events help create a startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This contest was a part of Manthan Event which is a Business & tech conclave held annually by IMS Jammu to provide a dynamic environment of knowledge and learning to the students of J & K. Participants were judged on the basis of their presented business idea and plan – Idea, Marketing considerations, Financial considerations, Payback period etc. It was a half day contest which was judged by Er. Divya Jamwal and Er Nidhi Jamwal on the basis of above-mentioned parameters. A total of 10 teams participated and presented their ideas.

The Institute of Management Sciences, Jammu, recently commemorated “Corporate Day” with great enthusiasm and participation from students of MBA 1st and 3rd year. This event served as a dynamic platform aimed at equipping students for the corporate landscape.

Corporate Day at IMS was characterized by a myriad of activities designed to empower students for the professional world. Ranging from engaging workshops to insightful presentations, the day offered abundant opportunities for skill enhancement and development.

The event commenced with a series of impactful Excel workshops led by Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, the Director of IMS, imparting invaluable knowledge. Additionally, Er. Nidhi Jamwal conducted a session on CV making, laying the foundation for the day’s focus on professional development.

Participants were then challenged with an aptitude test, aimed at honing their analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
